| Kathyrn
is a contemporary landscape representational artist and ornamentor who
works with mixed media and found discarded/disposable objects to create
her large canvases and ornaments. Ambiguity is a constant theme in her
acrylic paintings. Images in her photographs of nature are generally
augmented and enlarged before her ideas are combined with collaged found
pieces and/or custom paper, which many times are woven or cut into the
canvas. Her paint is handmade leaving an element of surprise to viewers,
who often mistake them for oils. Kathyrn provides private instruction
on her paint making and airbrushing techniques.
The
4 inch glass ornaments she creates are one-of-a- kind abstractions,
grandiose in their confined inner space appearing, at close range,
larger then some of her 5' X 6' and larger paintings. Acrylic paint
is air-brushed into the ornament then manipulated with special tools.
Combinations of glass, foils, glitters and color enhancers give each
fine art collectible their own identity.
Kathyrn
left her job in corporate America to fulfill her dream of becoming
a full-time artist and relocated to Cave Creek, Arizona in April 2006.
She previously maintained a studio open to the public in Hot Shops
Art Center in Omaha and a studio in Marin County, California and the
Bay area for 26 years. Her Masters of Fine Arts was received from
the University of California Berkeley. Her work is influenced by her
catholic upbringing, Joseph Albers, Henry Moore, Picasso, Mark Rothko,
the minimalists, and various west coast artists from the 1970's and
early 80's such as Ray Saunders, Joan Brown, Elmer Bischoff, David
Simpson, Richard Diebenkorn, Tom Holland, Roy Deforest and Nathan
Oliviera.
She
has exhibited in California, and Omaha Nebraska. Her work can be found
in private collections in the Pacific Northwest; Arizona; Northern
and Southern California; New York City; Dallas Texas; South Dakota;
Chicago and Omaha, Nebraska.
